The Thinking and the Feeling brain

Updated: Jul 16, 2023

If you don't understand this, then self control is an illusion for you and morality a facade.”

Why did I make the heart bigger than the brain? Because Feelings controls your reasons as well as your judgments(brain). If you don't understand this, then self control is an illusion for you and morality a façade. The model was enhanced by Jonathan Haidth in the Book The Righteous Mind, where he creates a model for Thinking Brain (Cognition, reason) and feelings brain (intuition, instinct, emotions) which symbolizes the rider and the elephant respectively. He states that we already have an inborn intuition and instinct, when the feelings arise we use reason to justify the emotion and the emotions that caused the action. Basically reason is the servant and Feeling is the master. The rider rides where the elephant leans. Thus, feeling brain is the root cause when it comes to influencing self and other. This has been very well know in marketing ever since Edward Bernay nephew of Sigmund Freud (that's where Bernay got the idea from) used the theory of unconscious (feeling brain) to influence females to smoke in public when it was a taboo for females to smoke in public in the 1920s. Anyways coming back to the self.... let me reiterate if self control is an illusion to the "Thinking brain", then self acceptance is the only thing that can save us---- accepting our emotions and working with them rather than against them.
